Hi. Just want to share that I finally got this card properly recognised. I hope that others may find this useful and give this card another chance. I am a fan of passive cool hardware mainly due to the quietness and lower energy consumption. So I am really reluctant to go any faster than this graphic card.
My Hack Pro:
gigabyte ga-z68mx-ud2h-b3 Bio F11
i7 2600s
Asus EAH6670 1024 Mb Silent edition
Dell LCD 27' @2560x1440 via DVI (dual link)
Lion 10.7.3 upgraded from previous versions
Latest multibeast userdsdt
Up until yesterday I was only able to boot with GraphicsEnabler=No and OSX is quite happy in generally.
The default frame buffer is ok for daily non graphic intensive use. However knowing that it should be functioning in supported mode rather than compatible mode is bugging me for a long time.
Someone in this forum was having some luck with Pithecia Buffer. He mentioned that this frame buffer indicates for 3 ports and is more suited for the 6670. In his post he was going into altering the sense IDs in the Kext but I was confident to go down editing the files myself. Luckily I found that someone has already done it and it's available for this particular card.
1. Backup then replacing the ati 6000 Kext in SystemLibraryExtensions
2. Add and change the boot flags:
AntiConfig=Pithecia
GraphicsEnabler=Yes
3. repair permission
4. Reboot
After reboot the system info panel show 6670 was correctly detected. Xbench graphic test went much faster than with GraphicEnabler=No. Played a video with hardware acceleration was fine and did not crash.
I also tested app store and iCloud are both signed on without errors.
N.B. I haven't test the HDMI because the Dell LCD needs Dual link DVI or display port to use full resolution. I imagine it should be alright as this Kext is modified for this card.
Credits go to the original post for the AtiConfig=Pithecia setting and the modified Kext for this card. And as always to tonnymac and mac man for enabling my Hack Built in the first place.
